Get out and discover your local creeks during Creek Week 2016, from March 12-19! There will be over 30 events this year, from stream cleanups to trivia nights, culminating with the Creek Week Celebration on March 19th from 1-4pm at Forest Hills Park.

ECWA has hired a Stewardship Coordinator!
Please join us in welcoming Dave Cook as ECWA's new Stewardship Coordinator. Dave comes to ECWA after a 30-year career as a park ranger for NC State Parks. His land management experience is broad, encompassing natural resource management, interpretation and education, law enforcement and emergency response, maintenance, volunteer management, and parks management. Say "Hi" to Dave when you see him out on the preserves!

Tails & Tiaras - Beaver Queen Pageant Kickoff Party
Saturday, April 30th from 6-8pm at Parker and Otis - Be the first to meet this year’s Beaver Queen Pageant contestants and judges and come shake your tails with the Bulltown Strutters! The event will be emceed by Ellen Ciompi and hosted by Parker and Otis - 50% of all food and drink sales and 20% of all other store sales during the event will go to ECWA. The event is free but voting often and frequent bribing will be encouraged!

for the Great Lakes Brewing Company Earth Day Green Tour
! For the second straight year, Great Lakes is generously donating to ECWA in honor of Earth Day and sponsoring a mega-workday! A land-based clean up will convene at the Beaver Marsh behind Compare Foods at 10am, and a water-based canoe and kayak trash clean up, Little Sweep, meets at 8:30am at the bridge where Redmill Road crosses the creek. Little Sweep is cosponsored by Frog Hollow Outdoors
, which has generously donated the use of 10 canoes for the day.
Join us for a Bilingual (English/Spanish) Migratory Bird Hike at the Beaver Marsh on Saturday, March 12th at 11 am.
Naturalist and Duke Nicholas School of the Environment professor Nicki Cagle will lead this hike, identifying birds and teaching us where they come from and how they survive their long-distance journeys. Please RSVP here.
Robert Meehan, ECWA's Creek Smart® Technician, will be leading a Green Infrastructure Tour starting at Fullsteam (726 Rigsbee Ave) at 5:30pm on Friday, March 18th. The tour will explore Creek Smart practices in urban Durham including rainwater harvesting, rain gardens, and removal of impervious surfaces and the ways these practices work to protect the creek.
